A soft begining of a smile began to appear. She tried to keep serious at Katniss's comment and Clove's reply. But she couldn't help herself and her smile grew to a grin. Before long she was laughing. Laughing! When was the last time she'd done that?

I smile at robins happiness. I wasn't going to spoil it with my story of getting my wrists cut.

Katniss does not laugh. Memories flood her consciousness, her mind struggling to put them back in their places. Small flashes register in her mind's eye-
Her mother, laughing. Her father scoops her up, dancing around the small kitchen.
Herself and Prim, age eight and four, singing the Hanging Tree. They make necklaces out of small bits of rope, not fully understanding the meaning of the song. Her mother comes by, and snatches the rope. She begins to cry. The song is banned.
Her father's death. The ashy ground, wet with tears. Her own, she notices. The elevators deliver countless mothers, fathers, brothers, and sisters to families weeping with joy. But Katniss stays, her father never to be found.
Prim's death. A gift from the Capitol. The ten-year-old girl rips open the packaging, safe from prying eyes in the Meadow. Katniss is off, unknowing. Prim was gathering blackberries when the small silver parachute floated down to earth. The explosion rattles the branches, sending the birds to wing. Nothing is left of her sister.

(Wow. Is that how Prim really died?! No! Poor Katniss) She stops laughing at Katniss's expression and dumps the berries from her shirt into the basket wordlessly.

(SPOILER ALERT! Kinda.)
Her eyes fly shut, her body unconsciously keeping the tears in. One hand curls into a fist, her nails digging into her palm. The pain brings her back to reality. To Robin, Clove, the forest. The pain ebbs a bit.
(Gotta go, see you at school.)

I kneel down. "Katniss. Are you ok?"

Her eyes flickered over the two girls-- softly. To distract Katniss she said quietly, althought she knew that Katniss probally had already figured it out, "There's a huge storm comming. We'd better find shelter or head back."
The way the air 'tasted' and the balminess on her skin made it clear that this was going to be a heavy one.

She nods, and without a sound begins the trek. Halfway to the fence, the rain starts. In seconds, she is drenched to the bone.

Robin looked irritbily at the forest floor, soaked to the bone. Her half-blond, half brown hair was stained a miserble black in the water.
She hated, HATED the rain.
She had that strange annoyed look on her face-- the ones cat's have when they're soaked.

Her feet drag, water sloshing in the boots. She waits for the hum of the fence, and finds that the rain had blocked it out. She finds as well that she does not care. Her shoulders scrape the fence as she rolls under. It's inactive.

She mimics Katniss's movements and dragged herself grumpily after her.

The Peacekeepers. Standing grumpily in the rain. They saw. Katniss's eyes widen. She snatches the basket from Robin, and hisses a command. "Run. Just go." She pretends not to notice the Peacekeepers, in their white, and walks past them. One sees her.

I stand quickly, drenched. The peacekeepers see me and recognize me. "Clove Evans." one says in a deep voice.

The other Peacekeeper turns to Katniss. His eyes widen when he sees her bow, the food. It is an offense punishable by death to have weapons, and therefore to hunt. He whispers to his companion, and they lunge at Katniss, and quickly have her pinned down, weapon out of her reach. They tug her to the center of the square, and up onto the stage.
"Why did you have weapons?" One demands.
Katniss glares up at him, her eyes full of fire. She spits in his face.

To make sure it was me they grabbed my wrists and held them up. There was a long thick scar on either of them. "its her." they say to one another.
